Auxiliary to Lamont Hospitals
Auxilians donate to LHCC
In 1912 the Hospital Aid Society of Lamont Public Hospital was formed by a group of community-minded ladies. They assisted the hospital by performing duties that would assure the patients a more comfortable convalescence. The ladies raised money through teas, bridge parties, bake sales, Christmas sing-alongs, bean suppers and sale of rags to the local garages. In later years, they catered for the nursing student graduations. The money raised from these functions was put to good use buying material for gowns, sheets and pillowcases for the hospital.

Throughout the years, the focus has been to enhance the quality of life for our long-term care residents. Today we hold teas, monthly whist parties through the winter months, canteen wagon to the hospital and Beaverhill Lodge, and book sales. We are always looking for new ideas for fundraising. Each year a donation is made to the hospital and lodge for purchase of items that will enhance the quality of life for the residents living in these facilities.

We volunteer our time in our local facilities. It could be visiting, playing cards, going on bus outings, helping with recreation activities, transporting wheelchair residents to other areas of the hospital, as well as special activities held in the Recreation Dept.

We are members of the Alberta and Canadian Associations, and members attend these conventions and attend regional meeting twice a year.

We are always looking for new members who enjoy helping others who may be lonely or need a friend.

2012 was the 100th year of the auxiliary serving this community.

Please note that the Auxiliary of the Lamont Health Care Centre is recruiting new members and extends an invitation to the public to join the organization.

The reward is the giving of one’s self in service to others. Men, women and youth are welcome to join.
